Welcome to Melbourne Drum Lessons: My name is Stephen Caruana, I am a professional musician, who conducts music lessons for Drums and Percussion students, since 2020, Live, Private Video Lessons commenced, and we can continue to conduct our Drumming Session from anywhere in the word! I no longer conduct in person lessons. All Lessons are via Live Video.
In March 2020, many elements of life have been altered, because of the Coronavirus! Due to this, I have commenced Live, Private Video Lessons! These are conducted via, Skype, or the Zoom app. https://zoom.us/
2023 celebrates 25 years of teaching experience. As you can see, I teach Drum Kit, but I also teach Percussion instruments too. I offer tuition on instruments from the regions of Brazil and Cuba: Congas; Bongos; Timbales; Cajon; Shekere; Tambourine, Shakers, Bells, Surdo, Caxixi, Caixa. So as a student, you have a Drum Teacher and a Percussion Teacher in one!
From 2004, I had spent a decade studying and teaching in the Netherlands, and performing throughout Europe. Then in 2014, I moved back to Brisbane (Australia), where I continued my music career, as a Professional Freelance Drummer, a Professional Freelance Percussionist, a Drum Teacher, and a Percussion Teacher.
In January 2018, I made the move to the vibrant and artistic city of Melbourne.
I am very enthusiastic to share my knowledge and experience, with the desire to assist drummers and percussionists to perform skillfully, creatively and musically.

Teaching In Europe 2004 - 2013
During my years in The Netherlands, I had the immense pleasure of teaching musicians, varying in ages, from all over the world. My teaching years there were heavily infused with the International Community.
The Hague International Drumming School (2011-2013): This school was my own initiative! For the 27 months that I operated The Hague International Drumming School, naturally, it attracted an International Community. I am very proud to announce that the school developed a reputation for teaching children with special needs. This means children & families living with conditions such as: ADHD, Down Syndrome, & Autism. Whilst teaching these families, I discovered how the power of music, and the co-ordination skills that are required for drumming, had an extremely positive effect on the children, and their development.
British School in The Netherlands (2009-2013): Diamanthorst Campus; Leidschenveen Campus. These campuses are attended by children from families that are mainly coming from the Ex-Pat community. Many of my past students are from: North America, Canada, South America, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Iceland, Greenland, Greece, Congo, Nigeria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, The United Kingdom, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. For me, experiencing these families & their diverse cultural backgrounds was such a wonderful insight into the world and its people, and it is an incredible feeling to realise that these cultures can all bond together through one common element........the passion for Music & The Arts.
SKVR Stichting Kunst voor Rotterdam - "Arts Foundation for Rotterdam" (2008-2013): SKVR is the largest Art School of its kind in Europe. This school is similar to Australia's Tafe System, but is purely focussed on the Arts. At SKVR the courses on offer are Music (Classical, Jazz, World, Popular), Scriptwriting, Photography, Dance, Theatre, Fine Arts. Working in this environment and sharing the passion for Music & the Arts amongst such a large community of students, teachers, administrators, concierge and support staff was truly an incredible period for me to experience.
Muziek Onderwijs Centrum (2005-2009): This music school is situated in a Dutch village called Spijkenisse, and the school is mainly attended by local families. In Europe, the arts are very well respected, and in particular, all children are encouraged to learn an instrument during their younger years. The MOC is a fabulous school and facilitator of music education for the families of this village.
De Jong School of Muziek (2004-2009): a Music School located in a Dutch village called Bergschenhoek. The school is mainly attended by local families. The De Jong School of Muziek is another brilliant facility for the families of this village.

in Brisbane 2014 - 2017
I had the pleasure to perform for many musical networks. My freelancing allowed me to regularly perform in the following genres and settings: Jazz; Blues; Country; Pop; Rock; World Music; Mariachi Music; Latin Music; Musical Theatre; International Cruise Ships; Show Bands & of course, teaching!
I had a great student network, where we would share the development of Drumming. Lessons were conducted at the well known Brisbane store, called "Just Percussion".

Thank you for showing interest in this website and also for your enthusiasm towards the “Art of Drumming”.
